Hiii, people.
I'm doing this little message because I have to talk about something important, and that is about the new guidelines Wattpad has created. I don't really know what the consequences are, I just know that this is really shitty.
Mostly because Wattpad is mainly known for writers writing violence, smut, and other serious topics that could be "triggering". Of course, I know that some people are problematic and stuff and should be banned here, but like every other platform. However, those new guidelines treat another issue there; the fact that writers won't be able to write freely because Wattpad expects us to write sunshine and rainbows stories.
The other issue is that, this whole thing is bullshit because no book will ever be a "safe book". Harry Potter is not a safe book, the Hunger Games either, Frankenstein too! This says a LOT about Wattpad.
Obviously, I think many readers and writers will switch apps, but I won't since Wattpad was my first reading and writing app and will forever be. Even though I strictly oppose what Wattpad has created, this is not the readers' fault and I will stand by that, and will keep writing and republishing works if I need to (except works like I Hate School and Private Propriety since I'm lowk embarrassed about these stories but let them be because they're my first ever works).
Of course, I will maybe try to write and read on other apps, I already am on AO3, but not with the same name account. Since it was mostly made for me to read stuff that I enjoy. And I just don't know how to write in AO3... But maybe I will start writing on Quotev and other apps.
What I think about this whole thing; it's like the c.ai situation. You're placing too many rules until it becomes a stupid app and people move on and you lose on your fame.
I just KNOW Wattpad will do worse in the future, I won't be surprised if they do an age verification as well since they probably think there's too many "minors" on this app.
