Recently been thinking a lot about “BL” and “Yaoi” categories and genuinely after talking to groups of gay young men who are against these categories and feel super sexualized and wronged and violated by these categories I’m inclined to believe them, these categories start whats wrong with a lot of gay stories, wether the writes female or not wether the story has gay ppl behind it, doesn’t matter, what matters is that the whole genre of stories tagged BL or Yaoi are built off sexualization of gay men and the role-models in those categories are straight female writers defining the style and how relationships work. I was originally when considerin gay fetishization and the issue it plays in our community plus how it effects individuals just gonns ignore Yaoi and BL but I’ve seen more and more that people who trust or follow stories that have those tags or are proudly in those categories-if your a writer and your story isn’t tagged in either and people still call it BL or Yaoi thats okay your not writing for those people they just happened to find you and leech on- and I genuinely do not want to see those individuals, wether an individual story in these categories actually explicitly fetishizes gay men, it doesn’t matter, write for that genre means your writing for straight people not gay people and it means your not listening to the gay men who genuinely feel wronged by these categories.

Okay thats my TedTalk (: just food for thought esp since a lot of ppl who follow me do fall under Yaoi tags

Im also going to be making sure that I refuse to support and withdraw any past support from books that fetishize gay men, any straight girl written ‘honeyed opening’ type books are going to be not only thrown out but I’ll chapter by chapter take back any positive comments. I’ll happily support any non-fetishized gay books if anyone has any suggestions. And I wholeheartedly hope anyone who reads this will also take the step to ask themselves if what their reading hurts young and old gay men and invalidates them and the queer community. Thank you
