well, 2months ago, June 29th, we lost our Mom. later, I found a good friend of 25 years passed away. His funeral was the same day my Dad was having a 3rd heart stent - obviously I was with my Dad but my heart was with Joe and his family.
fast forward to August 14th, our 14 year old calico Dizzy had to be put to sleep. She was fading fast and while I prayed for her to pass at home, she was in pain. I did a 16 hour marathon drive to get my son from LaCrosse to Milwaukee for it. After, we drove thru to visit my Dad at his rehabilitation/retirement home.
This was the last time my son got to see my Dad. Dad developed a gall stone and after weaning him off his blood thinners to do the small incision... the anesthesia put him into cardiac arrest.
against his DNR and his own verbal wishes before, they did chest compression and shocked his heart back into beating. He was then air lifted to a different hospital in Madison that specializes in cardiology.
My Dads kidneys are shut down, his organs are going one by one. My brother is driving up from Indiana and will be here soon. Then to honor my Dad's wishes as we have all agreed to, he will be taken off the ventilator and the medication thats keeping his heart pumping will be stopped. Alone with the other 5 meds. They will keep him on the Fentanyl drip (I think) so there isn't any pain.
He is so sick, we expect him to last less than a few minutes. My Dad is my world, he is my everything but I know he is ready. When my son was on his 5th speaker phone talk to my Dad, a tear formed in my Dad's eye. He hears us, he knows that we are honoring his wishes, he knows my son can't get here in time but he will strive to be a better man to make my Dad proud.
I love you Daddy
