I haven't been active the past 2 years tbh but I need to say something.
A slur is still a slur.
It doesn't matter if you think one is "worse", or it has worse history.
I'm tired of seeing people use beaner and wetback and stuff like that and then getting defensive when reprimanded.
When a word is used with so much hate, and has history of such, it stops being just an insult or 'banter'.
All slurs stem from the same concept, racism and hatred towards a group of individuals. This is regardless of the history.
If you're uneducated or didn't know, please go educate yourself.
And yes a see latinos, mexicans, themselves say it doesn't offend them. Thats selfish and idiotic logic. If a person of color said they didn't mind being called the N slur, would you go and start saying it? One person doesn't get the choice to hand out passes to millions just because they don't take it personally. Why do people even want to use such foul language in the first place.
Like as a Mexican myself, it's not the most offensive thing to me I'll admit, but I still wouldn't allow people outside that culture to use it.
Racism towards Hispanics is so diminished and ignored. It's disheartening and really sad. We experience racism too. All the time. It's sadly really normalized, too. People get fired or risk harmful digital footprint from the N slur, but not the others?
How are you going to defend and stand by one community and not the other? That's not even morally grey, it's just performative.
We all deserve to be treated equally. We're all humans. Act as such.
