DS Hunter Kerr got to No. 9 in the Amazon British Detective Charts today.
Although my central character, DS Hunter Kerr, is 90% me autobigraphically, his physical characteristics are based on the actor Richard Armitage. Whilst crafting the first novel, 'Heart of the Demon' I saw Richard play the character Lucas North in the 'Spooks' TV Drama and I was hooked. His partner, DC Grace Marshall's physical resemblence is based upon Angela Griffin.
Heart of the Demon is my debut Crime novel. It started its life in 2006, upon my retirement from the police. It took a long time to free up my prose (from writing police reports) and find my style. After 18 months I had the framework of a novel,and
began the editing and re-writes. In 2009 I began submitting
chapters and after a few rejections one publishing company sent back a two page rejection letter - but with advice on how to develop the novel. I followed that advice and began re-submitting the book. In 2011 Caffeine Nights publishing offered me a contract. The book was released last September. I hope you enjoy the opening.
