do you see her? the girl laughing. the girl with brightly dyed hair. do you see how she loves him? she'll do almost anything for the boy who listens and holds her when the world is too much. the boy with soft hair and soft eyes and soft hands and a soft smile he only shows her.

do you see her? the girl telling stories with animated hand motions. the girl with scrawled writing on her arm. do you see how she loves her friends? she'll bring snacks and hugs and flowers to those who she trusts. those who share dark secrets and could make her laugh any day.

do you see her? the girl with headphones with the volume on so loud you could hear her music. the girl wearing band merch. she fell in love with music that means something to her.

do you really see her? the girl who cowers at sirens and thunder. the girl with bags under her eyes and red marks where there shouldn't be. she turns to the teacher who practically adopted her when her household gets to be too much. some of her closest friends moved across the planet. she's attempted to do things no one should.

there have been times when it seemed like no one saw her. when she's cried herself to sleep every night for months because nothing seems to matter. when blood went ignored. when fake smiles passed as real for too long. there have been dark times.

but light always finds its way back. one way or another. through heartbreak and stupid mistakes and bruises and scars and diagnoses and numb nights. light always finds its way back. by God, by her friends, by the boy she's fortunate enough to call her own, by her dog, by a stranger's smile.
