I know I don’t have a lot of followers on here, but this needs to be heard.
If you were unaware I am African-American/Black. If you are not apart of the black community, I ask that you please just listen, and refrain from giving your input.
What I’ve noticed is that people, usually those outside of the community, always view people of color, or in this context Black people, as a strong unit who has the same beliefs, and works together to achieve their long deserved equality, to the point where they forget, that at the end of the day we are individuals with different beliefs, and morales, and experiences. No one person can speak for the entire community, but if the majority of the us state that we do not want you saying the N-word, then out of basic fucking decency and respect, why don’t you just not say it. The one black friend who doesn’t care whether or not you say it, because they don’t find it offensive and believe it is just a word that everyone should be allowed to say, does not decide if you are allowed to say it. Do research. Listen to what everyone is saying. And if you can’t even do that, just play it safe. It originated as a slur used to oppress black people and was then used as a word to uplift and empower them. Don’t say history is in the past when it has affected the present. Saying the word is a matter of how much you respect people and their experiences. If you feel entitled to it, then you probably don’t have that much respect, and in which black people have no need to respect you. Don’t wonder why you get hit, because you “just said a word” That situation happened because there was no basic respect, and in order to prevent situations like this from happening in the future, maybe you should get some
And although this post was specifically speaking about the N- word, it is not just limited to that. If you are not apart of the LGBTQIA community, do not say the F word, if you are not Disabled, do not say the r word, etc.
