With a bunch of deadlines to meet this month and a bit of writer's block to contend with, I haven't got much to report on the writing front for August's monthly update.
Instead, I thought I'd share some of the different tools and softwares I use when writing my stories. If you're someone who'd like to get into writing, or someone who wants to switch up your own methods, consider checking these out!
Plot: Not all of my stories follow a rigid structure, but every plotline is at least partially influenced by the Three Acts structure, or the Save the Cat method. These are great tools to ensure my stories have a direction. There are free templates online if you'd like to try them out!
Writing tools: I use a software called Scrivener for all of my manuscripts. It's expensive, but it's a one-time purchase for a licence instead of a subscription. It's like a scrapbook keeping together all my notes, my character sheets, my setting cards, my plot outlines, and all my chapters and revisions in one place. There's so much customisation that I have barely scratched the surface. I'm in love with it.
If you'd prefer free alternatives, I also use Reedsy and Ellipsus, too. They're great websites for compiling a manuscript across multiple devices, which is great when those random plot ideas hit me and my laptop isn't close by.
If you're after a bit more organisation, Notion is amazing. It's another free tool I use to organise my publishing schedules, with each chapter split into word counts, POV, publishing date, last-edited date, etc. There are a load of free online templates for character sheets, general plot outlines, word count milestones, you name it. It's also great for non-writing organisation, too.
So those are the main tools I use when I'm writing! If you've got any questions or alternatives that you use instead, please drop a comment down below!
See you next month, where hopefully I'll have some writing progress to update you with!
