Yo Soy: Perpetually Stuck on the Border
As I stare at the blinking cursor on the virtual page, my breath hastens, my stomach feels unsettled. I have put this off till the last possible moment. Although first impressions are important, how much more important are first impressions submitted to the page? Human memory fades, but words written are everlasting. One might go so far as to say that committing one’s thoughts to paper, virtual or not, gives a sense of vulnerability more heightened than an individual’s unabashed nudity. I begin in this way to give the reader a deep understanding of my hesitation in filling out the “about me” field. My intent is not only to explore literary tools to add to my tool belt, but also to break free of the psychological ties that bind me, to find my voice one might say. I do have a story to tell. My expectation is to take the first steps in finding the courage to tell that story, and to choose the hues best suited to paint my image on the literary canvas.
