He had been lying on his bed, curled around Firetail and Squiggles, the same plushies Bluey and Bingo clung to every night in their world. Even though a full day had passed since his last dream, the warmth of the toys still felt like he had never left them. He squeezed them just a little tighter, eyes half-closed, drifting between exhausted and peaceful.

The room was dark except for the faint glow of his night-light. The hum of the AC blurred in the background. Malik yawned, stretched, his arms brushing the plushies' soft fur, and closed his eyes again.

          	Then he heard it.

          	Beep.

          	His heart dropped. Not again.

He sat up, clutching the plushies. The exact same beeping from two weeks ago. The same pitch. The same rhythm. The same cold, twisting panic that filled his stomach:

          	He was being pulled back.

"No... wait- hold on-" Malik whispered, but the room was already fading at the edges, colors dripping into white like someone erased reality with a giant eraser. The plushies glowed. The beeping grew louder. His bed dissolved under him.

          	And in a blink,

The world snapped away. Malik hit the ground with a thump.

Grass. Warm sunlight. A strong smell of eucalyptus.

He groaned, rolling onto his side, blinking into brightness that felt like someone shoved a flashlight straight into his eyes.

          	"...ow..."
