Somehow, i feel like hachi is part of the blame.

Wouldn't it be easier, had Reira and Takumi ends up together from the jump, since they had been lovers before?
If it were like that, hachi doesn't need to end up in a loveless confining marriage filled with Takumi's great infidelity.
Overall, Takumi is a good-for-nothing. A trickster.

Finally... the most painful breakup here is Nana and Hachi. It feels strange not seeing them together. It's heart-aching seeing them drift apart.
