Hello! It's been a while.
Some may have noticed that I've unpublished my Chara fic.
1.
Back when I first started writing that story in my notes app maybe... six? seven years ago??, no one I knew was really concerned about the gender of the humans. Everyone operated under the assumption that Chara/Frisk/Kris' gender was left ambiguous in order for the player to decide for themselves.
It came to my attention a while ago that Toby Fox, um, never actually said that, and actually implied the opposite, and both Frisk and Chara are heavily hinted to use they/them or they/it exclusively. Nonbinary erasure IS an ongoing and serious problem, and even though fancontent doesn't make up even 1% of the erasure, it certainly doesn't *help*.
2.
I am now an adult! Writing a romantic story about two characters in their late tweens/early teens feels a little awkward now. I know most teen romance authors are adults, but it just feels a bit weird. for me. personally
3. Chara feels a bit out of character in the earlier chapters of my fic. And I'm not a fan of the writing.
Conclusion: Story is in limbo, but not abandoned. I wanted to wait to finish the story before posting this announcement but... uh... that's unlikely to happen. If I ever continue it, it'll be in a rewrite with proper pronouns, older characters, and ambiguous relationships (i.e., endgame QPR-coded relationship that can be interpreted either way). I am generally against aging up characters for the point of shipping, but I do tend to assume good faith when the older AU version of a character exists separate to the canon character in one's head.
anyway if anyones remiss for good chara fics i suggest Chosen by Scriptor_bellum on ao3. 45 chapters ongoing and well written
