It's time to introduce the main characters of *It's Because of You, Ray*.
          
          **Maximilian "Max" Volker** – A thirty-year-old, lifelong resident of Duskhaven. A lawyer.
          
          **Ray Holloway** – Max's contemporary, his law partner, and his only friend. He dies unexpectedly and is found in an overflowing bathtub.
          
          **Caroline "Caro" (or "Carole") Hale** – A few years older than Max, and also a lifelong resident of Duskhaven. A lawyer. Max met her a decade before the novel's main events, when they were both interns at the law firm **Kessler & Reeves**.
          
          **Rebekka Sable** – The mysterious girl from across the street. Coming from a broken family, she is intelligent and desperate. At one point, she was willing to sacrifice almost anything to turn her life around. Over time, however, she stands up to the criminals who once gave her a way to make money.
          
          **Enzo Moretti** – An Italian-American gangster. Banished from New York, he arrives in Duskhaven. He begins his rise to power by attacking a local criminal, Elias Crane.
          
          **Elias Crane** – Another lifelong resident of Duskhaven. Despite everything, he is fundamentally decent. He burns with a desire for revenge against the "spaghetti eater."
          
          **Declan Marr** – Captain of the Duskhaven Police Department. Corrupt. He plays both sides (at the very least).
          
          As you read the story, you'll also meet **Mila and Ross Hale** (Caroline's parents), **Jack Calder** (an assistant district attorney and an acquaintance of Max's, with whom he shares a strained relationship), along with many other supporting characters.

          Caroline ,,Caro" vel ,,Carole" Hale - o kilka lat starsza od Maxa, rodowita mieszkanka Duskhaven. Adwokatka. Max poznał ją dekadę przed głównymi wydarzeniami książki, gdy oboje byli na stażu w kancelarii adwokackiej ,,Kessler & Reeves". 
          
          Rebekka Sable - tajemnicza dziewczyna z naprzeciwka. Pochodząca z rozbitej rodziny, bystra i zdesperowana. Swego czasu gotowa poświęcić wiele, by odwrócić dotychczasową kartę. Z czasem przeciwstawia się przestępcom, którzy pozwalali jej zarabiać. 
          
          Enzo Moretti - gangster włoskiego pochodzenia. Wygnany z Nowego Jorku, przybył do Duskhaven. Swoje rządy w tym mieście rozpoczął od zaatakowania lokalnego przestępcy, Eliasa Crane'a. 
          
          Elias Crane - także rodowity mieszkaniec Duskhaven. Mimo wszystko poczciwy. Pała żądzą zemsty wobec ,,marakoniarza". 
          
          Declan Marr - kapitan policji w Duskhaven. Nieczysty. Gra na dwa fronty (co najmniej). 
          
          Czytając tę historię, poznacie również Milę i Rossa Hale'ów (rodziców Caroline), Jacka Caldera (asystenta prokuratora, znajomego Maxa, z którym jest mu nie po drodze) i jeszcze wiele innych, pobocznych postaci.

          To historia osadzona w fikcyjnym mieście Duskhaven w Stanach Zjednoczonych, w 1999. 
          
          Max Volker - adwokat, człowiek z urodzenia niepogodzony - ma tylko jednego przyjaciela: Raya Hollowaya. Ray wywodzi się z bogatej rodziny, lecz nie chce korzystać z rodzinnych koneksji. Wspólnie z Maxem zakłada kancelarię adwokacką. 
          
          Życie każdego ze wspólników wydaje się do bólu sztampowe. Wstają rano, zakładają garnitury i cały dzień, a nieraz też całą noc, zmagają się z problemami swoich klientów. 
          
          Kiedy w sierpniowy piątek Max żegna się z Rayem, pewien, że spotkają się po weekendzie, nie wie, iż jego życie już wkrótce zmieni się nie do poznania. 
          
          Nigdy więcej banalnych scenariuszy. 
          
          Dziewczyna z naprzeciwka, która nieustannie wpatruje się w okna jego kawalerki. 
          
          Obecność pomarańczowego Pontiaca GTO. 
          
          Udaremnione włamanie do mieszkania Maxa i dokonane włamanie do jego nowo najętego biura.

          The story is set in the fictional American town of **Duskhaven** in 1999.
          
          **Max Volker** is a lawyer and a man who has never truly found peace with himself. He has only one friend: **Ray Holloway**. Although Ray comes from a wealthy family, he refuses to rely on his family's influence. Together, he and Max establish their own law firm.
          
          At first glance, the lives of the two partners seem painfully ordinary. They get up in the morning, put on their suits, and spend their days—and often their nights—dealing with their clients' problems.
          
          But when Max says goodbye to Ray on a Friday in August, convinced they will meet again after the weekend, he has no idea that his life is about to change forever.
          
          No more ordinary stories.
