For as long as I can remember, I've been interested in writing. It captivated me that you could transform yourself to another time and place as simply as writing it down on a piece of paper. I imagined I could be anything when I picked up my pencil, reality already seeping away before I could envision the first sentence.
As I grew older, I was determined to make a career with my hobby. I knew I could make a fascinating novel that would hold the reader's attention until the very end. I just had to put my mind to it. After all, I had read many books, and learned from each in turn. They were all so different, some more amazing than others, but they all had one thing in common: They were able to take me away from my boring life and hold my attention for the majority of the novel.
The words in them flowed so easilty together, it all made perfect sense. I thought it would be easy to sit down and write my own book. But time and time again I started on one, only to fall short a few pages in. Writer's block had become my best friend, it seemed. Idea after idea danced through my head, paragraphs forming from nowhere in the back of my mind, only to flutter away as soon as I found a pen.
Is it that I lack the skills needed to write a whole book? Or am I just too distracted to entertain one thought at a time and take it farther than the first chapter...? I don't know, but I hope to finish at least one of the books I've started. Maybe this website with give me a little insight on what I'm doing wrong, and help me to further the exploration of my unclaimed novel.
One can be hopeful.
