Hey Y’all I want to come on here and spread awareness about an
internet bill that can do more harm than good. KOSA or the Kids Online Safety Act is a bill that is about to be submitted in a month to congress to help keep children safe online. Which is a good thing and something that we need. However this bill was made by the republicans to target LGBTGIA+ community and websites that could contain such content and information. Apps like Wattpad,TikTok,Ao3 and Tumblr will be considered as violations of this. AO3 has the potential to be taken down for good. This act that is made to protect is going to hurt so many people. KOSA would pressure platforms to install filters that would wipe the net of anything deemed harmful or inappropriate for minors. This instructing platforms to censor, remove or even restrict. Plain and simple. Important information like s3x education or even suicid3 prevention will be restricted. Places have already have started this process already censored things like LGBTQ+ support groups. And this kind of censorship would spread to every part of the internet. KOSA would shutdown websites that cover topics like race, gender,sexuality and mental health.
Places that are considered safe places for the LGBTQ+ community and minors alike will be gone. This bill is a disguise to target the LGBTQ community. Not mention this bill would attack how you use the internet. I urge you to please sign petitions,research more about this topic etc. are are a lot bills out there that threaten how we use the internet. So please look in to it. I just wanted to spread just how important this is. I’m not really good at writing but I wanted to spread awareness if some people didn’t know.
