Keyword: Poorly Written.
I'm talking about how they are structured and written.
How hard is it to write using proper punctuation marks? They're built in to your keyboards, it's definitely easy than using -,| |, or screenwrite style for conveying someone to speak.
It may be just me, but it bothers me a lot. For someone who reads actual books in my spare time, it feels like I'm subjected to mental torment.
The poor writing, coupled with the excessive cringe completely destroyed any notion of me wanting to continue reading the story. And I've dropped A LOT in the first 5 chapters because of it.
Don't get me wrong, the stories ARE interesting, the plot looks promising. There are a lot of good examples of this. The generic tropes can be made interesting by good writing.
Rhodes Island's psychologist, Starsfall, Visitors from Terra, and a bunch of other stories who's name I forgot, manage to make it work because of good writing.
Now, they still have flaws. The plot seems rushed, the writing itself being not-so good, but otherwise it's fine.
Now, the quality of writing differs greatly between Wattpad, FF, and AO3, but due to accessibility, Wattpad seems to have the major shareholder of teens starting to write. That's fine, people have to start somewhere, and hey, maybe I'll end up enjoying their stories. But for now, I'm not gonna subject myself in torment because I love my mental health.
If Wattpad had a review system like in RoyalRoad, I'll gladly force myself to read a story and write a review in the hopes people will atleast consider using proper punctuation marks. That way, people can see what type of story it is without having to go through the entire thing to find out.
I wrote this story for around 3 hours now, took a pause to eat, but yeah. That's it, I guess.
See you next year.
