@FanFicRyan though this is my first time publishing, a few things i’ve learned about writing fanfics is that foreshadowing is your best friend!! i wouldn’t recommend to include the characters’ backstories too early unless it’s actually necessary. If you start adding clues (dialogues, brief flashbacks) your readers can become more eager to discover your character’s past and what drive them to be the person they currently are. Another thing is that, if you have a long cast of characters, make sure each one contributes to the storyline. Sometimes we don’t notice, but sometimes we add characters that, unbeknownst to us, are only adding unnecessary material to the main plot. About subplots, make sure each one neatly connects with each, given that if you add any unnecessary ones, you can unintentionally overwhelm your reader. Happy writing! <33
