Youtube is planning to remove Community Captions on September 28th. Without this feature, thousands of weilan/wangxian fanmade videos uploaded by accounts such as NodeZero wouldn't have caption/subtitles in the future, given the majority are in Chinese. This also includes any international videos, from drama to films, or just regular youtube channels in languages besides English.
Auto captions, which will remain, are poorly translated, and that feature only include a shortlist of languages. Without Community Captions, we wouldn't have varieties of subtitles in multitude of languages from all sides of the world. Not just English, but Dutch, Spanish, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese...ect.
Even though youtube offer to give Creators 6 months subtitle subscription for a third party vendor, the catch is, it's only for 3 videos per 60 days, for one language per video.
At the moment, we're still short 20,000 signatures to ask Youtube not to remove a feature the community depends on. Please sign the petition and spread the words so we can meet our goal.
Thank you!
