I’ve just had an idea. Humphrey’s surname is Bone and he has a French wife, yeah? Well what if it’s kind of an allusion to the name Bonaparte? Napoleon was later 18th century so 200 and a bit years from Tudor England but he was a military leader and probably part of the French Revolutionary Wars which was France against some of the other powerhouses like Britain, and the French Revolution was all about taking down the rich. Two of the main countries that hated Protestant England? Catholic France and Spain. Providing Humphrey is from the Elizabethan England side of the Tudors, France and Spain were major threats to her rule so a French wife? Especially a French Catholic at that times would not have given poor Humph many favours in society, so ‘The Bone Plot’ could be something to do with the assassination of royalty (Elizabeth as you have to be very high in status to be called an assassination) similar to that of the French Revolution. A long shot, but the name just reminded me of Bonaparte fsr
