I was inspired me to write a female led version of Ragnarok, starring Freya, the most well known goddess of all time. And, I've always wanted to write an epic fantasy. I grew up watching Star Wars, and reading classic fantasy fiction epics like Dune and Ursula Le Guin's Earth Sea Trilogy.
I was immediately fascinated when I started reading about Freya, and I asked myself; Isn't this every woman's story?
I set about piecing together the story from different parts of the web. It all seems quite fragmented, but there are common themes across all sources. Love, power, war, trauma, sadness, loneliness, fertility, sex, death, empathy, beauty, struggle, turmoil and triumph.
Loki, the trickster god, spread rumours and gossip about her, painting her as a kind of immoral woman who found herself in the beds of various men. But gossip can't get her down...
She has a kickass chariot drawn by two huge black cats, a magical necklace, a legendary sword and a magical cloak of falcon feathers. She was also burned alive three times, and each time rose from the ashes.
I wanted to bring forth the controversy surrounding her, and define her not as how she is described as an object, but as a person, since this is the core of what we can relate it to the life of a modern woman. Her story comes across in many themes, and in many cultures all over the world including stories of witches and fairies and oracles.
How strange that the most well known goddess of all time doesn't have her own book?
Please vote for each chapter if you like it, I would love to read your comments and know what you think. I'm constantly editing as I grow as a writer. I want to give you the best book EVER. EVER EVER.
Freya is about a girl who finds her heart, and in doing so finds the strength to accomplish all things. Freya is a girl who makes the world adapt to HER, not the other way around. Her indomitable spirit is her power.
