Random!

So, I've got this one colleague and I'm 100% convinced that he could be the greatest quirky side-character.

He's really intelligent and you have a lot of respect for him, but he'll also come into the office with a pink Bazinga t-shirt and shorts.

He's so unapologetically him. What you see is what you get. Unfiltered and quite frankly, hilarious.

Yesterday (since it's past twelve at night) was the first time since I started working on 3 Jan 2022 that I got home feeling a little hopeless.

I absolutely love my job. It's so exciting and I just enjoy learning as much as I can. Last week I literally had an adrenaline high from something that happened at work... But while yesterday started out well, I ended the day feeling a little hopeless.

I was frustrated about doing something wrong (technically), which is illogical, because I didn't know that it had to be done differently and my senior knew it. He told me nicely that the way I did it wad fine for now, but to just take note of how to do it for next time.

Then arrangements surrounding work that took me all day changed, which basically redered the work that I had done useless. It felt like I did it all for nothing and that made me feel powerless and honestly, exhausted...

It was a weird feeling after weeks of excitement and I know this won't be the last time. But that's okay, because even though today was draining, I am looking forward to tomorrow.

One bad day doesn't change the fact that I still love my job.

On 1 January I moved to a new city on my own for the first time and started my first job on the 3rd.

It's been hectic, but from the beginning I decided to give myself the month to adjust...

With February fast approaching, I need to get my life together a little more (knowing full well that it won't happen in a day, but being okay with that), get into better routines, have a healthier sleep schedule, do Bible study more dutifully and not cook the same five meals over and over again (props to me for actually cooking every night - even if it is just fish fingers - and not buying takeout or eating bread at night, as that was something I told myself I didn't WANT to do).

I also want to make time for things that I like, including writing, even if it is just to clear my mind...

But for now I have to organise my room, figure out what groceries I need and go shopping tomorrow to look for more work clothes and headphones (I don't even like headphones or shopping, so wish me luck).

Adulting... Trying to figure out what to eat every night (and it's only night nr 3!!!)

Miss_Aislin

@JulieMullen7 oh wow, thank you! I'll definitely keep that in mind

@Miss_Aislin I used a 4-week plan for the longest time, still have a copy on my computer! If you get stuck, pm me and i can offer ideas. :)

@Miss_Aislin That's a good idea. This week is a little crazy in the sense that I started my first job on Monday and it's my first time living alone etc. This weekend I want to sit and think of a few meals and then do exactly that: try a revolving meal plan.

We had a class about whistle-blowers today and I got an idea that I'm debating about...

The MC blew the whistle at the company she works for and everything just goes south. Dismissal, intimidation, threats and maybe even relationship problems (how will her boyfriend/fiancé/husband cope and will he be strong enough to stay?).

I don't know whether or not to attempt something like this though...

Miss_Aislin

@Miss_Aislin oh yeah! And maybe he could have been appointed recently... He would want to hear it, but also be apprehensive because it might cost him his new job

@Miss_Aislin what if the leading man is a member of the company management, on the exec board or even president? Maybe part of the tale is convincing him that something nefarious is going on so they can team up to stop it, bring the evildoers to justice and save the company!

I just thought this was funny...

One of my lecturers is a respected guy high up in an intelligence center (let's call it XYZ) in the the country that I live. He's quite interesting to talk to, that is, if he's not teaching. As soon as he starts presenting a class, his tone goes monotonous.

Yesterday we had career fair and XYZ was one of the companies present. He was in the meeting to (it was virtual), but another woman who works for the company was tasked to present their presentation. When she started talking, she also had a monotonous tone.

On the Whatsapp group I have with my friends (we all study the same thing), the one sent a message that I found to be hilarious:

Looks like you get a complementary monotonous tone when you get hired by XYZ.

JulieMullen7

@Miss_Aislin that is actually really funny!

I've never thought about repeat day stories until now...

Yesterday afternoon, pretty sure it was between 14:00 and 15:30, a woman walked past our house with a kid riding his bicycle and she said "leave your helmet, it will protect your head if you fall".

Didn't think much of it and I went about my day, but a couple of minutes ago I heard the same woman saying the exact same thing to the kid on the bicycle as they passed our house.

          It's so random.

Would this be the moment in a character's day that they realise that their day was repeating?

Miss_Aislin

@JulieMullen7 that's a good point. She tended to follow her statement by sorta wiggling the kid's helmet, but even that could just be part of her catch phrase
Reply

JulieMullen7

@Miss_Aislin its such a specific phrase that it would tend to raise some questions, but she could just have a catch phrase. If that phrase were followed up with a specific secondary action, like the kid losing balance and wobbling, or a dog coming out to bark at them, that would be the deciding factor.

Never underestimate me when I am determined :D

I have to write a 30 page dissertation for my Honours (it's short because we're basically learning how to do research) and when I had to choose a topic I was determined to write about sport corruption.

My study leader was sceptical, but when I showed him my topic idea (that took ages to get to a point where it is presentable) he said it could work, but he doubted that I would get enough information so he advised that I should add a chapter about money laundering.

Guys, I'm almost done with chapter 3 (of five) and I've written 27 pages.

I've made peace with the fact that my dissertation may be closer to 40 pages...

@Myworldandme14 it is, but it's not that bad.

I enjoy writing. I always have, but lately it's become a chore and last night I realised why.

I went to a pottery class with my mom and while I enjoyed it, it stressed me out because I couldn't get it perfect (especially compared to my mom who has done pottery in the past). We talked about it on the way home and it finally hit me that that's the problem with writing.

I want to produce something perfect.

That in itself isn't the problem. The problem is that it takes away from my enjoyment because instead of just writing what comes to mind, I stress about having the perfect plot with perfect characters and complex problems and great conflict. And while that's something writers have to take into account, it doesn't really matter to me because I'm not writing to publish.

I write because I have stories and characters that I want to get out of my head. I write to let my creativity flow and to switch up from my left brain studies. I write because it helps me to deal with certain personal "issues". But mostly, I write because I like it.

And that doesn't include planning out this perfect plot.

It's just me coming up with a 'what if' situation and then going off on a tangent, filling events little by little to create a story.

          And that's okay.

im_my_own_hero

@Miss_Aislin oh my god. I've been wondering that for so long! Like, writing is my life. Why am I not enjoying it and treat it like a chore? And ur answer migjt be the same too idk. But tbh i just want to write whenever I want, whatever I want, however I want.
