"For us, a tree is just a vegetable organism and a star just a ball of inanimate material that moves along a mathematic route. But the first men who spoke of "trees" and "stars" saw things in a completely different way. For them the world was animated by mythological beings. They saw the stars as spheres of quicksilver which explode in a blaze in response to the eternal music. They saw the sky like a jeweled tent, and the earth as the womb from which all beings are born. To them all creation was woven of myths and populated by elves. "
This is what Tolkien wrote, speaking of fairy tales and myths, the ancestors of the fantasy, my favorite genre and the on of which I mainly write.
And this is what, in my small way, I would like to recreate.
