When I think of how long our story will
Last, I think too of how falling in Love
Is Oceanic. Of my first snorkel
And how wetsuits don't keep out the cold, rough
Waters. I know somewhere a whale skeleton
Is drifting alone where bone greets bone
And no creature has made itself a home
There. My love, I miss you most of all then.
When I think of how much together we've
Done, I think more on that lone, drifting whale.
I wonder if it lived well, if reefs
Try mimic the colour of its joy and fail.
'Til, at last, sleep offers a peaceful door
Where happily I swim and think no more.
