I turned and started moving toward the stairs.
But suddenly—
A strong arm wrapped around my waist.
Before I could react, I was pulled sideways and gently pinned against one of the marble pillars.
I gasped softly.
Then glared.
“Oh—”
I didn’t even finish.
I leaned forward and bit his hand.
“Ah—” he hissed.
Of course.
My sticky, gluey, shiny, snake husband Keiferrrrrr.
“Love,” he muttered, narrowing his eyes, “don’t you think you enjoy biting me a little too much?”
“So what?” I shot back instantly.
“Leave me, Keifer. I have a lot of things to do.”
But he didn’t move.
Of course he didn’t.
Instead—
He leaned closer.
His lips brushed that sensitive spot near my neck.
My breath hitched.
“Still angry?” he murmured, voice low and teasing.
My fingers curled slightly.
He moved even closer, his breath warm against my ear.
“Because I gifted you that excessive, rare, expensive gemstone pendant?”
I tried to turn my face to look at him.
But his hand on my back tightened slightly, tracing slow patterns that made it impossible to focus properly.
“I—” I tried.
Focus, Jay.
