Therians are individuals who identify as animals on a deep personal level. They believe that their animal identity is a core part of themselves, often feeling a strong connection to a specific animal, known as their theriotype. This identification typically arises through introspection, dreams, or a profound sense of connection to the animal's characteristics, such as loyalty or protectiveness. 

Unlike furries, who enjoy dressing up as anthropomorphic animals for fun, therians do not view their animal behaviors as merely a costume or performance; they see it as an integral aspect of their identity. The therian community has been growing as more individuals express their unique experiences and beliefs.
