I'm pretty sure Wattpad is just very slowly committing suicide... From notification problems preventing interaction, loss of the forums, loss of functions that allow for social interaction, and just general unwillingness to listen, I've been practically nonexistent on here. I don't want to be, and I hate that I'm watching friends jump ship left and right. It seems the smaller fanfic communities are just about all that's left, and that's because they basically maintain themselves. The rest has become a wasteland of soulless self-promotion because that's damn near the only option we have left...

For those who've followed me recently, I'm sorry that I'm just now responding. Wattpad's lovely glitching kept me from getting the notifications. I greatly appreciate what support I have left, but I honestly don't know if I'll be keeping this account open unless something changes. Is it just me? Am I missing something? Because I honestly don't understand what they hell they're doing. When you drop half or more of your workload, you should get a helluva lot better at the work you've got left... Maybe this is bad PR of me, but at this point I don't have much to lose. I haven't decided anything final, but it's getting there...

@F3th3rA Same! They've just pulled the plug on themselves! That's where most of us met and first interacted!!!

Wow! So, I haven't been super active in a while. Life gets in the way and all that. But A Different Kind of Hero just won a WattOriginal!!! I'm kinda blown away right now. With no limits on views and being thrown in with everybody...yeah, totally blown away. o.O

NikkiJohnson705

I'MSORRYI'MSORRYI'MSORRY!!!!! I had taken A Different Kind of Hero down for construction and didn't realize it would make me do each chapter individually and completely blow up notifications , although I should have known nothing is ever easy with Wattpad... But I'm done now!!! Again, sorry!!! <3 <3 <3

Hey lovely Wattpad peoples! I'm still trying to gather feedback on A Different Kind Of Hero. It was a deeply personal project that took over two years to complete and the original reason I came to Wattpad in the first place. I've learned so much since I originally published, and I don't feel like I really did it justice so I plan to do a complete revision. I'm just too emotionally invested to see it objectively. I'm happy to trade reads and reviews, feedback, or proofing services in return. I always do my best to remain constructive and helpful. (I've already got some of you on my 'to do' list, but I can always shuffle what's there or focus on something specific depending on your needs.)

Without the forums, it's been more difficult to stay connected or organize in any meaningful way, but I believe that authors should stick together and support one another. Literature as a whole is important. I've gotta give a huge shoutout to @MistressOP, @MistressofReads, @LittleMinx94, @Fondness_Fantasies, and @houseofmirrors for continually supporting other authors and encouraging the rest of us to keep going. I know I would have given up on Wattpad by now were it not for a couple of them in particular.

Anyway, I appreciate any help or referrals you can send my way, and I hope you're all doing well. Sending all my chaotic, unconventional, undying affection! <3

Realization struck me earlier today...y'all realize in a few years the entire romance genre is gonna be screwed, right? Future generations are gonna be reading our work going, "This is such unrealistic bullshit. People just going around kissing? In public? That's just irresponsible, not to mention crazy." Ah, the good ole' days of normal STDs and guys who never called...am I right? XD

NikkiJohnson705

@Miss_Ananya Well, the whole global pandemic kinda does away with a lot of the old dating habits and mating rituals in general. I read a little bit of everything, and I can suspend disbelief for the sake of a good story. But eventually, our reality will no longer seem realistic. LOL

@NikkiJohnson705 That's why I am writing more sensible romance novel. So that it will be free from all the crazy cliche things Because I myself thought such things reading such books

My lovely internet service provider is giving me fits, so if I disappear at times, I'm not ignoring anyone. I live in the middle of nowhere, have no phone service, and have been cut off from the interwebs temporarily. Let's hope I don't have to digitally strangle anyone to get it fixed, but I'm not above throwing a fit if necessary. Shadow Nikki puts Karens to shame. ;)

Since I'm old school (a dinosaur) and tend to edit my work more completely before posting, I've been thinking about doing something on the side for fun while I work on my real projects. I use a lot of humor even in my more serious work, and I've been considering two options. The first is a running "diary" called Tales of The Demon Dapple and The Ancient One (still a working title). PJ is a six-month-old female dapple dachshund, and Mooth is a fifteen-year-old male long-haired dachshund (his name was Moose but he developed a lisp after having his front teeth removed, so now his name is Mooth). He is also sometimes known as The Crypt Keeper. PJ is an annoyingly adorable minion of Satan who has recently lost some of her own teeth, and Mooth isn't sure if it's because she's growing up or if she's simply taking on her final form... Then, as my dear friend @KTCroft suggested, there's the option of a parenting guide with such suggested titles as Parenting For Smartasses, The Devious Parent's Guide To Raising Independently Sneaky Children, or How To Build An Evil Minion From Scratch. This would include helpful tips such as how to effectively use labor and delivery photos as blackmail material later in life or how to trick your crotch spawn into saving you the best Halloween candy every year. (Said female crotch spawn is now 18 years old, a college freshman, and surprisingly well-adjusted, so I figure why not share the wealth?) Thoughts or suggestions?

@KTCroft When my daughter got her little dapple female, she thought about naming her Phoebe in honor of her "other mother" so she named her PJ instead...Phoebe Junior. LOL! Phoebe made it to seventeen, ten of those years with my daughter. She knew exactly who my daughter was when we came home from the hospital. That was HER baby. And she was a sassy little shit! So PJ has the perfect name because she acts just like Phoebe did when she was little. We're a doxie family through and through, and they are absolutely insane! So much fun though.

@NikkiJohnson705 Phoebe is such a great name. I tried to use it in a story idea but the Friends version of Phoebe kept coming to mind and muddying my character.

@KTCroft I've thought about referring back to his Aunt Phoebe, too. She practically help raise my daughter. LOL

Out of curiosity, who else builds playlists for specific characters or scenes? I use music a lot to help me reconnect to a scene once I've had to take a break, but I'm wondering if anyone else is obsessive as I am. In Hero, Caleb plays Dive by Ed Sheeran in a really important scene. When it was all said and done, I'd listened to that song over 350 times! In the two years it took to write that book, I created playlists for characters' different moods...classic rock, hip hop, heavy metal, rap...you name it. Is it just me?

NikkiJohnson705

@NikkiJohnson705 Pssssht! She was 15 when she and all her little friends discovered Fifty Shades (Before I started writing...). She started asking for copies of my playlists after that. Mother of the year right here

@MistressofReads Same. It helps me get back in the mindset I was in when I began. What's funny is that sometimes I'm distracted when I start throwing something together and I'll just slap a label on it, so my daughter laughed her ass off one day when she came across a playlist of mine labeled Caleb - Horny. LOL!

If you're looking for something with a unique premise, check out Fixing Noah by @MistressOP. (There may be a better way to share stories but I'm still figuring all of this out. I come from the days of AOL, pterodactyls, and actual word processing software. Cut me some slack.) Anyway, I tend to like a little bit of everything, and I love the way this author approaches characters that would typically be marginalized. If you're into strong women, gentle giants, and real world problems, Fixing Noah is definitely worth your time. And thank you, @MistressOP, for everything. Truly grateful we met before The Great Forum Implosion of 2020.
