I got a lot of brutal reactions in When The Dust Settles..... Hahaha, I know! This novel is frustrating, and trust me, I understand why people are upset. But it actually happens to a lot of women in real life. Not everyone walks away after betrayal—some choose to forgive, whether because of love, family, hope for change, or reasons that only make sense to them.

The comments have been absolutely brutal, though. Every time I read them, I feel like my readers are ready to march into the story and drag the husband out themselves. But that's what makes it interesting—if every character made the decisions we wanted them to make, there wouldn't be much drama to write about!

@lconedy Thank you so much for this comment. It means a lot to me, especially because you connected with the story in the way I hoped readers would.

When I asked in the poll whether readers wanted Marco's POV, it wasn't because I suddenly decided to write it. Marco's story is already being written, and many of the missing pieces from the first book actually belong there.

I also understand why many readers dislike Marco. Those reactions are valid. The goal of his POV is not to defend him or excuse his choices. What he did hurt people, and that doesn't change.

What his story will do is provide context. It will show what was happening behind the scenes, what he was thinking, what he failed to understand, and how his actions affected the people around him. It will also revisit the pain his wife experienced during those same events.

There are moments that were only briefly mentioned in the first book that deserve to be explored more fully, such as when she learned the truth and the days she spent waiting for him at the café, hoping he would show up so she could finally confront him.

There are also details I deliberately left out of the first book. Some readers may be surprised to learn that there were events surrounding the wedding and other parts of their relationship that never made it onto the page. I omitted them because I wanted the story to stay focused on its main purpose.

The truth is, there was already enough drama in their lives. If I included every revelation and every hidden event, I worried readers would become more focused on the twists than on the themes I wanted to explore. This story was never meant to be about shocking surprises. It was meant to be about choices, consequences, growth, and the complicated ways people hurt and heal each other.

Thank you for reading all the way through and for sharing such a thoughtful comment. Readers like you remind me why I wanted to tell this story the way I did.

Author,
I am a huge fan of your writing, and your stories. Full stop! On this platform, I generally comment after reading each chapter. However, after reading the synopsis of this book, I chose to read straight through to the end. I have to say sincerely, that this is one of the most authentic and real relationship stories I have read in quite some time. It reveals internal feelings and emotions that many would shy away from, because we want easy resolution. I married young as well. Have accomplished higher education and a wonderful career, raised children, and have grandchildren. I know that I and my friends have discussed and or lived through many of these same types of issues. No one has everything figured out, cutting the strings with parents was harder than initially thought, and no one really knows what they will really do until they are in certain circumstance for themselves. In my opinion, you have written this story just right, and I for one am asking for Marco’s story in his pov as soon as humanly possible. This story will resonate with readers who know that people don’t always follow the straight path…but may take circuitous routes that lead to pain, disillusionment, and hard choices. I loved that this couple took time and did the work that led to reconciliation and knowing themselves better.
Thank you for sharing this with readers!

@hoonsaurus Yes, I really need to find the time to finish it. I'm a bit stuck between completely rewriting it or just making a few changes. When I originally wrote it, it was mostly for fun, and I didn't do much research. I love Chinese historical romance novels, so I wanted to try writing one myself—but it turns out it's a lot more difficult than I expected. Huhuhu.
