When the Pogues are out walking one afternoon, they come across a quiet, four-year-old girl sitting alone on the curb, clutching a small backpack and far too scared to speak at first. Her name is Reece, and all she knows is that her mother told her to "go find your father" before driving away.
Shy, guarded, and clearly overwhelmed, Reece doesn't trust easily—but something about the group feels different, especially JJ, who feels an unexpected pull toward her from the moment they meet. Though he can't explain it, he becomes fiercely protective, staying close as the Pogues decide they can't leave her behind.
As Reece is slowly welcomed into their world, the story unfolds through her small, frightened perspective and JJ's conflicted, instinct-driven one, exploring found family, abandonment, and the quiet bonds that form before anyone understands why. What begins as a chance encounter soon becomes something much deeper—setting the stage for truths that will come to light in later chapters.
