Hey, I have a bit of a problem.... I ended up getting into a altercation with a friend that despises the 4th of July and basically said that I didn't deserve any freedom because of what we did to the natives, but what she doesn't understand that...I don't celebrate the holidays because of the symbolic meaning behind it I celebrate them because they bring my family together a few times a year where we can be together and not yell at each other all the time. When that person said "You don't deserve freedom, because of what happened to the natives.'' it hurt because I am part Cherokee and sure what the colonists did was horrible, but may I remind people that it wasn't just the colonists, but it was the Spaniards that also took part in that forcing the natives to religion? But how does that have to do with the fourth of July? Sometimes I wonder if people ever paid attention in history classes or not, because that's not what the 4th of July was even about it wasn't about the destruction of the natives it was about America getting it's independence from King George III in 1776, we didn't get our freedom on the 4th, but it was announced on the 4th we got our freedom on the 2nd of July and if I am not mistaken some natives actually enlisted themselves during the civil war and same with the revolution war I am sure that some Natives forgave our past transgressions because they knew deep down in side that we are all the same, we are human, but my friend was comparing me to her other American friends who don't celebrate the 4th of July, but what she doesn't get it they have different traditions to celebrate the 4th she just placed her ideals on to them and doesn't listen to anyone until things don't go in her favor, now what should I do about my friend because I have blocked her on Discord should I wait a year for her to cool down or just leave her be?
