SHE stretched her ofor staff towards you and pain flared in your chest.
You fell to your knees, gasping in anguish as her wrath burned through you.
It is we like liquid fire that caused your vision to blur into cloudy films.
You struggled to breath as your body slowly descended to the earth beneath you.
But then, you felt another hand touch yours, and it was warm and familiar.
It was Kainene.
She was freed of her chains and her small hands was gripping your wrist.
“I won’t let her take you,” she whispered.
The Oracle snarled.
“You are nothing before me!” she screamed as the hall itself trembled at her rage.
The shadows along the walls twisted into the faces of the dead warriors.
The ones who had fallen in battle and all the people who had burned or starved.
You realized that the writhing shadows were the sacrifices of the past centuries.
Kainene helped you to rise, lending you her shoulder to lean heavily on.
“You have preyed on us for too long,” you announced to her, frightened. “Our fathers may have knelt but we will not.”
The Oracle laughed.
“You think you can end me? I am older than your bloodlines.”
You shook your head, terrified but prepared to perish with this Oracle today.
“Then you will end with us,” you informed her in a steady voice.

This is a short fantasy story rooted in African culture and igbo mythology. It's a piece I wrote once for a contest and left after. It's been gathering dust in my drafts for eons. Lol. I decided to post it here because someone might like it...
Hopefully someone does.
UPDATES: Everyday till it's completed.
