I just read your book and I really like it!
As for idea's there could be plenty. Try thinking of other things out shows you like and try putting it into context! Or even dreams!
As for other ideas that I think would be great - there's many.

This would probably go much later on the series - but - it could turn out that the company is only the cover of something much greater. Such as a secret service killer machine or something. And your patents are probably under-cover CIA agents who find advanced minds -such as Hiro- to work for them. And it turns out that Hiro actually personally knew your parents, but didn't know that in the time being.

For the parents - it could turn out that they were kidnapped for ransom. Rather they were being paid to be taken to someone - or the kidnappers demand a ransom from the government and the company to have the parents safe return.

Turns out your parents really played with fire and looked to the wrong resources for money. They go 'evil' being consumed by money. Then later you find out that Hiro and his friends were the "Big Hero 6" and had to fight against your parents. You didn't like any of these confusing situations.
Of course with all of these, I'd spread it out to make the story longer. So I would have different little snippet scenes in between.
For example;
☆ Getting a job in the café
☆ Hiro teaching you about technology
☆ Meeting Hiro's friends
☆ Visiting SFIT
☆ Eventually becoming a genius and figuring out how to create life (which would lead to resurrecting Tadashi)
☆ Different awkward scenarios (ex: Hiro forgetting you moved in and walked in on you while you were bathing/changing/etc. Tripping on the stairs together, accidental kiss, slipping on the floor and Hiro rushes in only to find you exposed, etc, etc.)
