Stephanie had always wanted to do something great, like her father who served in The Great War. She attempted to enlist by posing as a male. Her various health problems still lead to her rejection.
She took part in an experiment, changing her into the Captain America we know.
She fights for the American dream and values. After hiding her true identity for so long, she's happy to finally be known as the woman with the shield.
