Don't make the yandere obvious in the beginning, drop small hints but nothing bigger than a general feeling of something isn't quite right. Then as you go, say every ten chapters you turn up the instability a bit.
By the time the MC is aware of the yandere's instability it's already too late for them to pull away...
For extra points as a big reveal write one chapter from the yandere's point of view to let your audience know what's going on and then focus on the MC eventually learning too, presenting that imminent feeling of doom!
