I started writing a few years ago from a longing to be good at something. I remember whilst younger kneeling and praying to God to help me know how to write. It was that intense.
Initially, I started with prose but afterwards I diversified into poetry. Writing became an avenue to embody who I wanted to be; it was a means of expression but much more than that. Writing helped me find myself and I shall be eternally grateful to it.
Consequently, I started to imbibe cultures that helped my writing skills. I started to learn new words particularly, adjectives. I started to read great authors like Ben Okri, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Buchi Emecheta and the likes. Through them, I was searching for what Adichie calls ‘my unique cultural voice’.
With words, I have been able to find a definition to my existence. It has given me vision and one good thing about vision is that it streamlines you in a good way. The written word has become my greatest weapon and I am prepared to change the world for the better with it. And by the grace of God, I shall.
