            I understand the concept of derivative works usually falling also under fair use - so that part is familiar to me. I just wasn't sure on how it works on WP.

@PatchyCheese Fanfiction’s a bit of a tricky topic because it does sort of fall into a blurry area of copyright. For most part, it constitutes fair use as derivations are transformative works. 
            
            I don’t believe there is an exact guideline or suggested copyright for it, but assuming that you are: 1) not planning to make any money from it and; 2) don’t want people taking your fanfiction and reposting it in other places/deriving further work from it, you should be fine to put it under All Rights Reserved (since the creation itself is your property) and add a disclaimer crediting the original creators of the fandom. 
            
            Fan art, for example, is still the copyrighted property of the artist who created it even if it uses others’ characters so I don’t see why fanfiction wouldn’t be the same.
            
            You can always choose not to leave it as ‘Not Specified’ if you are still unsure though.
