Hey everyone! My new chapter is officially out!
I also wanted to share a little something about myself.
My favorite author is Octavia E. Butler. She was one of the biggest reasons I fell in love with science fiction. If you didn't know, I'm Black, and growing up, there weren't many Black sci-fi authors to look up to. When people think of Black authors, they often think of historical fiction, literary fiction, or stories centered around drama. Science fiction is usually one of the last genres that comes to mind, and that's part of why there still aren't as many Black voices in the genre as there should be.
What inspires me even more is her journey. She started writing and submitting stories when she was just 13 years old, but it took her about 16 years before she had her first major breakthrough as a Black science fiction writer. She was around 29 when her career really began to take off. That's a reminder that success doesn't always happen overnight.
One of my favorite books by her is Kindred. It's about a Black woman who is married to a white man, and they're suddenly pulled back in time to the era of slavery. What makes the story so powerful is watching how differently the experience affects each of them. Her husband struggles to hold onto his values in a world that normalizes slavery, while she's simply trying to survive. It's a story that has stayed with me ever since I first read it.
So, I just wanted to share the author who inspired me to start writing science fiction.
And if you're a fellow sci-fi writer....or you're thinking about becoming one....don't be afraid to follow me or send me a message. I'd love to connect with more people who love creating new worlds and imagining the impossible.
Now... go check out the new chapter!
