Phoney Thoughts: Monday
Why are people not tapping into the hidden potential (man) of ugliness? There is so much to be drawn and written about if the main protagonist/oc has something considered ugly or disgusting. Not "Oh he's an edgelord and social outcast", "They're an evil to the bone bastard" or "she's actually a mad scientist/ an insane person that likes to torture people for her experiment".
I'm talking appearance wise/power wise.
There's always a repeat of "Super Strength" , "Super Speed", "Pyrokinesis", "Telekinesis" and generally mainstream powers and appearances of characters or their descriptions on this platform.
I am yet to see a protagonist STARTING with head-turning scarring or facial deformities, or a power that's just in general unpleasant to witness; such as detailed biokinesis beyond meaty tentacles, bug manifestation and manipulation and descriptive decay/organic rot/necrosis.
People focus too much on "beautifying" their characters, showing their physically appealing sides and merely making their psyche "ugly". This doesn't work as well as making an approachable and generally kind character look like a 4th degree burn victim with 20 different stitches across their face.
There's this social phenomenon where people are far more forgiving and appealing to people who are, by social standard, beautiful compared to genuinely innocent people who dont meet a socially acceptable quota of good looking. I've seen people (mainly women but this could apply to men as well) want serial murderers pardoned because they look "hot" or "sexy". Like Jeez Louise.
Do you think that Ugly Shell, Beautiful Inside should be shown and utilized more on this Platform? Or do you think I am a complete melt and copium addict?
Feel Free to share your thoughts!

@PhoneHeadedMoron Now that is just what I was talking about, I think physical gore/incomprehensible has a lot more potential than just something ugly or sick

@PhoneHeadedMoron Hmm, it is an interesting idea indeed. In my opinion, the reason most people does not make an "ugly on the outside, beautiful on the inside" mc is because most people are... How should I put this? Perhaps not proud and satisfied with how they look irl? Let's go with that for now. They're not proud and satisfied with their physical appearance in the real world, so they make their character attractive and appealing I myself don't mind reading stories where the MC (or xreader) isn't attractive, as a matter of fact I don't really care how the MC looks. Just as long as the MC isn't a femboy (we all have our preferences, no judgement please), or at least if the MC is one, it has to be a well written one for me to enjoy. That is all I could share of my thoughts P.S : I might use the idea for one of my books I would remake, or different stories in the future
