I'm too rusty to continue my current stories, but instead of mopping about it, I'll do the next best thing. I'm going back to my original story format of 1000-2000 words. You can still see it in my Borderlands story, aka my first EVER story and also worst one. Short, simple and easy chapters, like finger food they're easier to make.

With my schedule, just thinking about needing to write 5000 to 10000+ words is stressful. Hopefully going back to basics will help me get my spark back.

@Pink_Jester do what works best for you.

With season 2 of Hazbin Hotel coming out I can't help but notice the amount of garbage that's popping back up again. It's not just that it's bad, but actually clear the authors don't have a clear goal or story plan in mind and have the mindset "I gotta be the first to publish a chapter about the new season" which leads to shit.

I already dropped 7 stories because of this, all thanks to the authors who don't know what they're doing and rely on the new season hype to get reads and votes. I would call them out, but you know how certain fans are. Just glazing and dickriding their favorite author and doing a poor attempt at an argument against anyone who says the story went to shit.

Not like I have time to read with how busy I am. For the same reason I hardly write, I am too busy with my job, and even on my off days I feel super tired. I just want to lay down and never get back up. Sometimes when I try to relax, I open a game and just... stare at the screen. For five whole minutes, then I shut it off without playing anything.

Not gonna say the usual "I'm still trying" and whatnot. I'll write when I feel like it. It's a hobby, not a career.

Adulthood is bullshit, stay in school, kiddos. Listen to your teachers and parents, they're more right than you'll ever be.

I find conflicting traits in characters so fun and wish more writers did them. Compare a depressed character who is depressed and acts depressed vs a depressed character who acts chaotic.

"Nobody cares about me and I want to die..."

"I'm absolutely, positively DEAD inside! *finger guns* Thanks for asking :D" (Me, btw)

Why make simple personalities? Why only the "good guy who is logical and kind" type? Making a character that acts in a unique way compared to others is half the fun of writing.

You got the anger issues dude who blows a fuse all the time and is impulsive.
The hyper dramatic and theatrical bloke that exaggerates his every action for the sake of comical relief.
The chill surfer/high on drugs type with a slow brain who's nonsensical rants somehow make a lot of sense.

See? There are so many traits to explore! All unique, all fun. I support the way people write their protagonist inspired by themselves, but I don't believe everyone is "kind to his friends and family but ruthless and merciless towards his enemies". Be honest here, most people on the platform aren't the confrontational type.

And guess what? The three examples I gave? Those are all traits I have! I get angry easily, I am super dramatic to make others laugh, and I say random stuff that got people in my circles to admit I was actually right.

@Pink_Jester Hey, that Surfer one was actually pretty good. Would it be okay of me to use that one?

@Pink_Jester I've always wanted to write a character who is just... refreshingly evil like Jack Horner from Puss in Boots. Like, he's so evil that he's my favorite villain.

But I have always wanted to write a villain like Jack Horner.

Hey, @Pink_Jester's

can you help me with something?

I came across a story that I think was made with AI, but I can't tell.

Can you help me who to identify these types of stories so I can avoid them?

crunchy556

@ Pink_Jester, thanks, brother

@crunchy556 Nah. If the grammar's shit like that, then it's 100% man made. AI has the habit of being very descriptive with things. For example, when writing a character noting something about another character, it will follow with a stupidly unnecessary comparison like "His eyebags are dark, like black coffee and depression" instead of just stopping at dark

Basically, there are three major AI tells. The first is with the use of Em Dashes, those long dashes that no human actually uses. Second is the rule of three, which is basically AI trying to be dramatic in descriptions and doing "Not only is this X, but Y and even Z". The third thing is as I mentioned, being very descriptive yet super vague at the same time, like comparing things to one another yet making people think "What the fuck is this guy on about?"

I'm not the best at explaining this, as you can tell. I just use AI to come up with fun scenarios whenever I have a story idea, so I'm very used to seeing it's writing style

Who even makes these things? Just discovered that my store sells Italian Brainrot trading card packs. EXCUSE ME, THE FUCK?!

I am also dealing with writer's block. I can't write more than 200 words every time, so the next Brawl Stars chapter is sitting at around 3000 words out of a minimum of 5000

@Pink_Jester Dude, at a yearly fair that happens in my city, there was a vendor selling Italian Brain Rot Mystery Figures, Cards and Plushies, it was fucking insane how that shit became actual merch, but we live in a word that's basically braindead, so it makes sense, also, Have you tried listening to your favourite type of music while you write? Might help with the writer's block

Idea for a UmaMusume story:

Male Uma reader, naturally, named Juan. He's not a racer, he just likes standing on balconies and aura farm. He also speaks Spanish sometimes.

His favorite pastimes include: Standing on balconies, speak in third person to piss people off and bluntly complimenting Umas and human girls' asses. (certified ass man right here)

He breaks the law by gambling on Uma races, and has earned a fortune of 13 dollars and 2 cents. He has used that money to get himself a portable balcony he can take anywhere.

He gets very anxious if he's on low ground for too long and can't stand non balcony floors.

He has a spider sense that only works if a balcony is nearby, and it can only detect balconies, railings and hormonal Umas.

He believes flat is justice and likes pear shaped people.

Am sadje. Went to the trouble of pre ordering Borderlands 4, only to now find out I cannot even launch it because Randy's a bastard who doesn't know how games work.

Unreal Engine 5 is garbage, that is a fact, and no developer should ever use it if they value their player base. I can't play this damn game because of the minimum specs, and now I have a huge game on my Steam library I cannot play, and I have to resist falling into temptation of watching gameplay to avoid spoilers so I don't know everything from the start as I did with Borderlands 3.

Patience is NOT my forte, so this is a hellish psychological training I am putting myself through.

I'll just go get Silksong to cope, even though I'm not a fan of metroidvania games, and I never got into Hollow Knight to begin with... *sad gamer rage intensifies*

... what's that? Updates? Oh right, well, my work contract has just ended, so now I'm back to being 100% free (not counting my driving lessons). Guess this means I can go back to staring at words and... not knowing what to write next, and... disappointing everyone with pointless announcements... My life is meaningless even in the only thing I enjoy doing, isn't that a hoot?

Pink_Jester

@Inverse_El_Shaddai I "Pre Ordered" it one day before release. I'm not stupid enough to pre order a AAA game in this day and age without a way to get a refund if it sucks or I can't play

@Pink_Jester ...You bought it? Not even bought it, PRE-ORDERED it? And it runs on Unity 5? AND after what Randy said before the game "launched"? Give me your money, your currency, your doubloons cause ain't no way you blindy bought a game in this day and age.
