@ShontaCarlisle6 This reinterpretation explains her actions in Seasons 2 and 3 and her belief that Klaus is pursuing her becomes the foundation of her survival-driven behavior while this does not justify her actions in the present it provides a psychological framework for understanding them.
            
            At one point perhaps in the early 1800's as a flashback it could've shown Klaus attempting to remind her of the truth once he found out what happened however her dissociative state is so deeply ingrained that she ignores him entirely continuing her day as though he were not present. Recognizing the extent of her self-inflicted punishment Klaus allowed her to maintain this illusion because he knew he could use that to his advantage anytime and letting her believe in a fake reality where she still is miserable is still a win for him.
            But back to the present though after the hybrid massacre Klaus seeks an outlet and decides to force Katherine to remember and because her dissociation is so powerful this process could unfold realistically if Klaus doesn't want to automatically use compulsion but mind games and it could form a compelling narrative arc.
            This could also provide a more convincing motivation for Katherine to seek the cure rather than bargaining for freedom she might intend to use it against Klaus although this storyline is dark and would require careful development, it could significantly strengthen Season 4 it would portray Klaus as genuinely ruthless and sadistic while also redefining Katherine’s character and their dynamic. Additionally, it would allow for richer flashbacks and a deeper understanding of Katherine’s psychology.

In addition, Klaus compels the children to share personal details about themselves so that Katherine becomes emotionally attached to them making the repeated act increasingly devastating. By the time she kills the final child after twelve years this final act completely breaks her. Even after the compulsion forcing her to remain in the church ends, Klaus still keeps her under partial control and by this point she is psychologically broken and has lost so much of her humanity even without turning it off precisely as Klaus intended. Eventually, he releases her knowing he no longer needs to hold her captive because he broke her and it's perhaps in the mid-1600s. However, the most significant development occurs later in the late 1700s unable to cope with what she has done even though she was under compulsion Katherine dissociates rather than remembering these events, she reconstructs her past convincing herself that Klaus has been chasing her for centuries. Although still tragic, this version of events is more bearable than confronting the truth.

@ShontaCarlisle6 I would have Klaus reveal the following, instead of the narrative in which Klaus chases Katherine for centuries after slaughtering her family in 1492, he would have already taken her hostage and intended to make her his protégé as a way to break her and prolong her suffering because she dared ruin his ritual.
            During her early years as a vampire when she still retained much of her humanity perhaps in the early 1500s Klaus, out of boredom compels a family to kill each other which Katherine attempts to stop them but, knowing she will not be fast enough to save everyone before Klaus intervenes she does the only thing she can think of she snaps their necks to spare them suffering.
            Displeased by this Klaus later compels her to remain inside a church and while Katherine is already terrified and uncertain of when she will be released Klaus returns a day later with twelve children.
            He compels the children to remain inside the church and never leave, this becomes the turning point in which he only comes to give food to the children once every week so they don't die too quickly and he then compels Katherine to kill one child every New Years and If she attempts to resist it a secondary compulsion forces her to kill the child violently ensuring that resistance is psychologically impossible so no matter what she loses as a way to teach her a lesson about showing mercy.
