'Plegmund' is a name from my schooldays when some of us had a prolonged imaginary battle between rulers of non-existent kingdoms, carried out entirely by an exchange of letters and proclamations. The real Plegmund was a scholar of unimpeachable character and AB of C (Archbishop of Canterbury) for Alfred the Great.
