This is a little impromptu rant.
I think it's about time for all of us to snap out of it and realize that anorexia and bulimia is a mental illness and not some sort of logo you can add to your personality. It's wrong. Anorexia and bulimia aren't 'beautiful'. They're not embellishments you can use to make you feel better.
They eat you up. They eat your time and life away. They eat your bodily functionality. You see your life taken away from you day by day, and hate yourself because you cannot do anything about it.
What about any part of that is beautiful?
It really is a pain to see the inconsiderate and insensitive society trying to fake an illness they aren't fighting against just to gain sympathy and extract more followers. Anorexia and bulimia don't make you look better. They're not diets for you to follow through just to get thinner - even when you're lying. Just because they're mental illnesses doesn't mean that they're less severe.
Mental illnesses are as lethal and as serious as physical ones. But after seeing recent progressions, I'd say they're worse.
But I really don't understand. Why is faking eating disorders socially acceptable? If I fake osteosarcoma and lie to people that I have AIDS, wouldn't that be morally wrong?
I would be a leper, for sure.
And why would kids feel that being kept in a mental ward far away from home, secluded alone, is fun? What have their parents told them? I thought we were in the age of prime intelligence.
Maybe I was wrong.
