Exclusive sneak peek into the updated story Believing Lies.
Riley
The smoke fills my lungs making it virtually impossible to breath. Gagging I clutch the crying child closer to my chest and whisper in her ear to attempt to calm her down.
" Harper, it's going to be OK. Mommy is here and nothing will ever hurt you as long as I'm alive." The soft words settle her for only a few moments because gunshots ring out just above my head.
As Harper is wailing even harder now, dread fill me because she could reveal where I am hiding.
"Anthoney!!! Where are you??" Calling out to the flames hoping to get some response.
Nothing.
Minutes pass and so do more gunshots but they don't phase me anymore. They all ready know where I am, let them come and get me.
"Riley?" He responded while emerging out of the flames, not a single brown hair out of place.
Before I realize it tears have filled my eyes and started streaming down my face. I love this man so much. He is my rock, my everything and it hurts to be away from him.
But this is what has to be done.
"Anthoney, take Harper to live with you, protect her and keep her safe from all of this." The words are getting harder to say but somehow I manage.
I look at his face and see tears in his eyes. My heart shatters into little pieces because Anthoney never cries.
"No, I can't, I won't. We made a promise to raise her together, and that is how we are gonna do it. Together." He whispered
My breath catches in my throat making it even more impossible than it already was.
" Anthoney, do you see this-" I gesture all around me, " Harper doesn't deserve to grow up in fear and revenge." The look on his face tells me that he finally understands. I give him the wiggling bundle of cloth and he holds her looking with the softest eyes.
We lean in for a kiss but we never get the chance...
I am being dragged away from my husband and only daughter. I turn my head to see the black hooded figures. They are taking me prisoner in my own kingdom.
