When I was younger, I never understood why my mother loved reading so much. She had piles of pocketbooks overflowing in her shelf. Plus my grandmother-her mother- would lend her a few books every time we get to meet her. To me, it all looked like a burden. Books mean that you have to read. I was okay with reading the textbooks from school but it was because I had to, or else I would be failing my classes. Seeing the books my mother were reading made me shudder. How could she read all those without getting bored? Those boring white pages that were filled with black ink, line after line. I preferred coloring books and fairy tales during those times.
But as I grew older (and wiser haha), I fell in love with books. You would probably be surprised with this, but the first novel I ever read was Twilight. And you'll be more surprised of the reason why I read the book it was because I liked the movie. I know, I know. The movie sucked but the book was much better. A lot of people don't like it. But I think the story just hooked me up. After that book series. I started reading all my mother's pocketbooks.
I think I finished half of her books in her shelf by the time summer ended. That was the summer before sixth grade. That was the that summer changed my attitude towards books. And I started to love reading.
I know reading is very different from writing. I started writing short stories when I was younger but they were to cliche. I've tried a lot of times to start on a story here. But I guess I never really got the time. Or when I do, I was too afraid of the outcome. I'd probably embarrass myself or the story might be too cliche. I've started one but I ended up deleting it.
And now I'm here typing this up, not really knowing what to do. You'd probably feel the same if you were like me typing all of this up at 4 am. Maybe I'd continue reading a few stories here. Maybe I'd build up the courage to write one. Who knows? You only live once. And it's a free country!
