I would love to rewrite Hidden Valley with a frontal lobe (I won’t) because I can literally see the shifts of me trying to convince MC apologists that this girl isn’t a nice person. That focus definitely brought a lot of shock factor gags and extremities. The point of Cyn is that sometimes people who face adversity still aren’t good people when enabled. The point was successfully made, but in my current self, I’d prefer a much less dramatic sequence.
But fanfiction is fanfiction, I guess. Lmaoooo

@thehomc Thank youuu! :,) I never looked at it as a cautionary tale and that’s so cool to me that you saw that. If I could redo it, I’d def do it as an intentional cautionary tale regarding her and add some more realistic teen themes. I was a young adult writing most of that and my viewers were all so young. I think most were like 15ish? That’s like 9th grade, but as long as they/y’all enjoyed it! Lmao

I get that! I’ll be honest and say I read Hidden Valley when I was like 17 and (although a small takeaway) it taught me what it looks like to lose yourself in someone else so much and depend on them because of your own insecurities. All the times that Cynthia had to redeem herself and grow were completely tossed out the window and it became increasingly more difficult to root for her it was just a sad but extremely helpful and cautionary tale! You really nailed the coming of age genre because I’ll never forget how that story helped me in my teen years!
