✶ just for a little context, david's universe is in the future!! in 2040, to be exact! not much has changed― earth is still polluted (there has been improvement, but there's still a long way to go), inflation is still through the roof, and most world issues have yet to find a solution. but like in most futuristic movies, tech is life. similarly to 'ready player one', most people live their lives online through vr and social media, causing a rise in mental health issues. because of the new age of technology, most jobs belong to robots, which leaves majority of the population unemployed and jn poverty. this is where david's mother, dr. malia quinn, becomes relevant. after creating a time traveling device in 2038, malia quinn has become the richest person in the world. she owns the corporation neotek and has over 2 million workers, helping to alleviate the unemployment rates in the us. she also opened a few neotek buildings in places like the uk, russia, india, and australia. her net worth is around 300 billion dollars. after the death of tim cook, she also took over apple.

david is often used by his mom and the neotek company as a guinea pig for most of their products, this is why he has very poor hearing and overall is never at his leak. this is also what gave him the greenlight to time travel so often, he mostly spends his time in ancient rome or the 2000s.
