I walk up the stairs leading up to the house after the tall blonde, my head hung low. "Scott?! Is that you?" A very feminine voice rings out. I look all over for a source of the voice and spot an open window. A girl comes racing out of the double doors with a man trailing after her. She jumps into Scott's arms and wraps her arms around his neck. "Hey Kirst!" Scott says, wrapping his arms around her waist. She releases his neck and he sets her down on the ground softly. He nods at the other man who nods back at him.
"Scott. Who's this?" He asks, pointing at me. I look down at the attention the bearded man gives me, my eyes on the marble staircase. "This is Mitch. Mitch, this is Kirstie and her husband Avi. Avi, Kirstie, this is Mitch." Kirstie smiles warmly at me, but Avi just nods. I nod quickly, flicking my eyes up at them before looking back at the ground.
Scott tugs at my arm. I gasp and immediately flinch away out of his grasp. He stares at me, as does Avi and Kirstie. "I-I am so sorry." I stutter. "I just-I-umm-sorry." I say in a defeated tone, looking down at my feet. "Mitch. Hon." Kirstie says, kneeling down in front of me. "Shhh." She says, wiping something from my cheek. A tear. I didn't even know I was crying. "It's okay. Come here." She says, opening her arms. I shake my head in response, backing away from her.
"But ma'am. I'll get you wet." I respond, staring at my feet. "Honey. I have more clothes. And a dryer. My clothes will dry. Come here." She explains, opening her arms to me. I nod and collapse into her arms.
"Shhh. Shhh. It's okay Mitch. It's okay." She says soothingly, rubbing my back
