Hey there! I'm Katie, your average 17-year old writer with big aspirations in life. I write mostly about the environment and animals, whether directly or indirectly, because I think the best way to spread the word is through the art of writing! I consider myself a bucket of self contradictions, adoring life/earth science, statistics, and the writing side of English while also having a burning hatred for chemistry/physics, any other form of math, and literary comprehension.

I'm a nature-lover through and through, and though I have a special curiosity and adoration for animals in particular, I do have a fondness for plants and fungi as well. Geology and oceanography is another budding interest of mine. In my study time you'll see me prioritizing AP Environmental Science above all else, glued to the textbook and flipping the pages with a wide-eyed gaze. I love learning how all the living things and their environments on this planet interact and have a never ending passion to protect them. During the school year I volunteer at my county's nature center and during the summer I spend a couple weeks shadowing zookeepers at a zoo in Tampa, Florida. In the past 5 years of shadowing zookeepers I have worked with everything from lorikeets to giraffes to cheetahs, and have also had three amazing opportunities to scuba dive with sharks through my internships, which has only bloomed my love for animals. Therefore I aim to become a conservation biologist with a focus on zoology and/or ecology. Of course I would love to be an author on the side :)

The story I am most focused on as of recent is Crossing the Silver Thorns, a children's-fiction novel (though open to older audiences as well) I started a year and a half ago but have recently picked back up on. It follows the story of an African wild dog who finds himself in the middle of the illegal wildlife trade.
