I can actually relate to this.

Before my senior year we moved to a new school (actually it was the fourth school in four years). But, the difference this time was that I didn't get a chance to audition for section leader or chairs at the same time as everyone else.

Basically, I had to come in to the school year (as a senior) and start at the bottom. But I love band and enjoyed every minute of it. I decided early that I would enjoy it no matter what. I eventually ended up as second chair and then went on to have a great year.

I suggest you look at it as an opportunity to grow and be challenged (even if you perceive that you are as good or better than the others).

          Make sense?

Hey friends, I NEED help! The finished novel is up on amazon (kindle & paperback) and is launching in ONE WEEK! If you could go ahead and pre-order that would be awesome!

It helps the book in the amazon rankings!

Hi! So I'm trying out for drum major and I am just a freshman. I really want it, but I'm afraid and I know I'm not ready. Can you help?

@JelsaNoir Hey, congrats on working up the courage to try out. That in and of itself is a BIG win!

            1) Don't stress out about it. Think about all the reasons you want to be drum major. Are any of them fun? Are any of them connected to joy? To enjoying the experience? If so, then focus on those reasons. Don't get hung up on being perfect or beating other people. Make sure that you really want to be drum major for the great experience and fun it will be.

            2) Don't underestimate the challenge. It's a lot of hard work to get ready for a drum major audition. Be prepared! Put in as much work as you can ahead of time. Know the audition requirements front and backward! Don't worry about being perfect, but focus on being confident in the material.

            3) Know that as a Freshman, there might be other candidates who are more seasoned and experienced than you that might be a better fit just because they are older. Even if you feel like you're the best fit. If that happens, respect and honor them! As a freshman, you have several more years to try out!

            4) Did I say have fun? Just have fun! remember we can't always get what we want in life, but we should always be ready to enjoy the ride. Just the fact that you're trying out is awesome!

            Good luck!
