So I have a question for you writers out there. In a thread I ended up sharing my experience trying to get noticed on this platform using the means suggested given the platforms current rules. I said as follows.
“Share your story is good. Clubs are super time consuming, especially if you have school or a job. Beta reads can be good, but you’re usually put either on a list or have to pay as much in services as you would for a read for read or a club. Also, those translate to an additional one or two reads. The system is set so that the audience you are trying to reach will only be met if you are advertised on wattpad’s front page. Additionally, the two ways to do that are have the built in support of a club or through being noticed through the stars program, which tends to favor those who are extremely active on the threads, have books that hit wattpad’s target market of 12-17 year old females, or those who have worked through the ambassadors program. This isn’t me complaining. This is me pointing out that you can be successful on wattpad if you treat it like a full time job, or whenever people start to recognize that the system is flawed and that wattpad needs to expand its target market which would only help the site anyway, and allow them to offer more to authors. Alternatively, you can just write smut and get tons of reads and a following. That’s honestly the easiest way.”
In saying this, I honestly didn’t mean to be controversial. I really was trying to state what I have observed. However, I know this is one personal observation, and so I can’t help but wonder if you guys agree or not. I would love to hear your replies. I would appreciate it if we could keep this discussion civil, as I know it has the potential to get heated, but I also know that it could be a very beneficial conversation to have and I do welcome all opinions. I hope you’ll comment and let me know what you think.
