So I live in a town called Richmond, it’s a Georgian market town but it was founded in 1068. We have a castle which is why our town is a popular tourist place, it was built by the brother of William the conqueror. Anyway, we have a popular myth about a child we know as the drummer boy. The story basically goes:
A group of soldiers found a passage but the entrance was too small for any of them to get in so they persuaded (or forced we don’t really know) a young drummer boy to enter. He was supposed to keep drumming so that the soldiers could follow above him. He did this but about a mile away from what we know as Easby Abby the drumming stop. We don’t know why but there are theories. One being that the ground fell on the boy or that the passage stopped, my favourite is the one where they say he found King Arthur and his knights sleeping. The sound of his drumming awoke one of the knights and that knights asked the boy of England was under attack, the boy replied saying no. The knight said that there was no need to drum for the king doesn’t need to be woken up and then asked the boy if he wanted to sleep with them until they must be awoken.
No one really knows who the boy was or what happened to him but all we know is where the drumming stop and that the boy was never seen again. We even have a grave stone above where the drumming stopped to remember the drummer boy.
Any how, I have wrote this because I low key want to write an original story based off of this but I don’t know if I should. I think it’s such an amazing and fascinating myth and I have some cool ideas how to use it to make a story. Please tell me if I should : )
